Exxon spent over $85k on Facebook ads last week
The ads targeted audiences in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Michigan
Oil giant Exxon Mobil has been targeting Midwestern states with ads that subtly message against Biden administration environmental regulations. For example, they spent around $20,000 on this ad that overwhelmingly targets Americans over 65.
Other recent ads from Exxon make the argument that oil and gas pipelines are good, actually, and that “unnecessary” regulations are bad for “our economy.” These acquisition ads are being shown nationwide and mostly targeted at older Americans.
They were also targeting specific states where fossil fuel production and processing are significant, including Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, North Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Utah, Colorado, and Alaska. Like their other ads, these are targeted at older residents of these states.
The company also spent at least $2,000 on GOTV ads for the upcoming special election in Louisiana’s 2nd congressional district with the tagline, “Fuel Your Vote.”
Finally, here’s a look at some of the ads they’ve been running on both Facebook and Instagram to try to greenwash not just their brand, but fossil fuels as well. These seem to be in advance of an upcoming board of directors election for the company.
