Here are the top 10 posts from climate groups on Instagram and the # of interactions each post got:
The polluters and climate groups DCC is interested in made 297 Facebook posts over the past week. Of the top 100 of those posts by interaction, only seven came from polluters. On average, polluters’ posts received 172 interactions per post, while climate groups’ posts received 238 interactions per post.
Overall, climate groups on Facebook outperformed polluters in terms of engagement. A few climate groups that have broader portfolios posted about the murder of Daunte Wright, including the Sierra Club, Greenpeace, and Sunrise Movement. Other groups - namely NRDC, The Wilderness Society, LCV, and Friends of the Earth - have made successful posts about Biden’s climate-friendly Cabinet appointees and their actions, especially Interior Secretary Deb Haaland.
The top Facebook posts from polluters this past week came from Zion Oil and Gas, Inc. and Chevron, about facilities new and old:
We saw a similar trend on Instagram, where pro-climate action and conservation groups have a far larger audience thanks to the platform’s ascendance as an activism + awareness hub. Posts about Daunte Wright from Sierra Club and Sunrise Movement significantly over-performed their other content, but Greenpeace’s campaign against Coca-cola also seems to be performing well on the platform.
Meanwhile, among polluters, Chevron’s above post about their long running gas station also performed relatively well on Instagram, as did a historical post from Duke Energy about National Lineworker Appreciation Day.
