Last week's top climate posts: April 18-24
Celebrities build clout around #EarthDay, net-zero by 2050, and more
Last week was Earth Week, so there was a lot more social media activity about climate change from companies and celebrities. Here’s who made the top 10 posts about “climate” from April 18-24 on Facebook and Instagram.
On Instagram, celebrities with huge followings made the most successful posts about climate change and #EarthDay, as did corporations like Instagram and Apple with feel-good posts about climate activists and spectacular environments (FWIW, a dubious post about grizzlies mating with polar bears due to climate change also did quite well).
Unsurprisingly, on Facebook, the most successful posts came from partisan accounts like the Obamas, Dan Bongino, and Ben Shapiro, with the latter two attacking Vice President Kamala Harris for her accurate assessment of climate change as a root cause of migration from Latin America.
It appears that President Joe Biden’s social media team has found success in brief posts from the president’s Facebook page, and that certainly includes the posts they made last week about Earth Day and America’s new clean energy goals. Take a look:
Among climate groups and polluters on Facebook, some of last week’s top posts by interaction per follower came from the National Audubon Society, Stop Line 3, and Extinction Rebellion (cheers to David Attenborough!):
Meanwhile, on Instagram last week, some of the top posts by interactions per follower came from the Alliance for Climate Education, the National Audubon Society, and the Center for Biological Diversity, although these posts were made after Earth Day.
